Calambrone, by the sea between Pisa and Livorno
Calambrone is one of the main seaside resorts in the province of Pisa. Overlooking the Ligurian Sea, the city is located halfway between Tirrenia and Livorno. From an administrative point of view, Calambrone is part of the Municipality of Pisa.
Perfect for a beach holiday with the family, this destination is also very popular with business tourists thanks to its proximity to the cargo port of Livorno. The main strengths of Calambrone are its long and sandy beaches, its coastline that has remained quite wild and the remarkable offer of baths, hotels and facilities dedicated to sport and leisure.
History of Calambrone. From the Pisan port, to summer camps and luxury resorts
In medieval times, the area where Calambrone stands was occupied by the port of Pisa. With the fall of the Republic of Pisa in the early 1400s and the subsequent burial of Porto Pisano, the area was abandoned and soon became a large swamp.
These events were followed by a few centuries of oblivion until, in the 1930s, a series of summer camps were built around which the new center of Calambrone developed. Around the mid-twentieth century the colonies were abandoned so the city lost much of its appeal, going through a period of sharp involution.

Calambrone: sea and beaches and bathhouses
Calambrone offers visitors a long beach of fine golden sand, ideal for a beach holiday with the family. The promenade is characterized by the presence of dunes behind which the beautiful Pineta del Tombolo extends, which is part of the San Rossore Natural Park.
Like Tirrenia and Marina di Pisa, Calambrone also boasts the important recognition of the Blue Flag, conferred by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education).
Calambrone is also a popular destination for sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts. Thanks to its particular position, here there is never a shortage of wind and waves, two elements so loved and sought after by surfers and sailors.
The sea at first glance may not seem too clear but this is mainly due to the sandy bottom which remains particularly low for several meters before degrading more clearly. On the other hand, a shallow seabed is a guarantee of greater safety for children who swim in the sea and this is certainly positive news for families.
Along the Calambrone beach we find many bathhouses but also large stretches with free access. In addition to the classic umbrella and sun lounger, bathroom and bar rental services, several bathing establishments in Calambrone offer various sports and recreational activities. It is not uncommon to find tennis courts, swimming pools, beach volleyball or five-a-side football fields in the immediate vicinity of the Calambrone baths.
Holidays in Calambrone are not just diving in the sea and sunbathing but also lots of fun and outdoor sports.

Along the coasts of Tuscany there are several beaches for dogs. One of the best known is located in Calambrone. I’m talking about the Single Fin Tuscany Dog Beach, an establishment equipped to accommodate dogs. This is the only dog bath in the area, but it is also one of the best in all of Tuscany. Here you will find all the services you need for a beach holiday with your dog.
